Andy Saultz is the director of the PhD in Education and Leadership (PhDEL) Program and is an Assistant Professor of Educational Policy. Andy earned a B.A. of Political Science from Oregon State University, a M.A. in Teaching Social Studies from Lewis and Clark, and a Ph.D. in Educational Policy from Michigan State University. Dr. Saultz started his career as a high school social studies teacher, and was elected to the Okemos Public School Board. His research focuses on the politics of education, the intersection between economic, educational and health policy, and school segregation. Dr. Saultz was awarded a Fulbright Program Abroad grant to study the history of schooling in Ecuador, led a study abroad trip for undergraduates in the Dominican Republic, and has taught in southern Poland and China. He enjoys hiking, hanging out at the beach, and spending time with his partner and 2 young children.
